Corporate Kids Events, a Nationwide company that provides event childcare, teamed up with the Batten Disease Support & Research Association, a non profit organization, based out of Washington on July 14th and 15th of 2023 for their annual conference. Corporate Kids Events (CKE) specializes in special needs kids camps and this event was to be held in Denton, TX for 2023. CKE has previously provided special needs event childcare for the organization and were thrilled to be doing so again in 2023.
The Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA), whose long term vision is “a world without Batten disease. Our mission is to support Batten families, fund and facilitate research and advocate for treatments and a cure.” The 2023 BDSRA Conference “Give Batten the Boot!” were 2 full days of educational sessions, family and sibling support groups, kids activities and even pet therapy. These sessions presented a unique opportunity for learning, sharing and networking and are helpful to those with Batten disease and their families.
Corporate Kids Events gave the opportunity for families to bring their children with them to this 2-day conference childcare event and enjoy their own side special kids camp with the theme of Western Theme™ while the parents learned more about Batten Disease and support family members living with someone that has the disease.
The kids camp welcomed around 35 special needs kids and 28 local special needs trained and experienced staff. “My favorite part of the event was watching the kids interact and relax with the therapy animals,” reported Program Manager Cindy. Using animals when working with special needs children has many benefits including helping the kids relax, learn and participate better and can help them build confidence. Furry friends also come loaded with positive emotions and unconditional love, so having therapy animals at this event was perfect for the kids!
Cindy also mentioned, “our local staff was amazing and really bonded with the kids through encouraging conversation and interaction and the kids really loved doing the arts and crafts projects with the staff.”
The Managers prepared several activities for the children including a play dough creation contest, decorating your own cowboy hats and visors. Arts and crafts are a great way for all kids to build self esteem, enhance communication and developing social skills with their peers. Corporate Kids Events always has a large arts and crafts component at all of their events in light of the joy, fun and skill building it brings.
Corporate Kids hosted 35 children for this 2-day kids camp, managed by Cindy and and Anne, two California Program Managers with strong backgrounds in working with special needs children. According to the reviews by parents, the animals were by far the favorite part of the kids camp.
The Batten Disease and Support and Research Association Event in Denton, TX was located at the Embassy Suites in Denton. You can learn more about the Batten Disease Support and Research Association here.
We look forward to hosting many more events with BDSRA in the future! Thank you for your trust in Corporate Kids Events!
